Luke Durbridge

Luke Durbridge (cycling) is a veteran of Commonwealth Games in Delhi, Glasgow and Birmingham, with a best result of bronze in the road time trial in blistering heat at the Delhi 2010 Games.

The West Australian tried cycling aged 14 after dabbling in rugby, basketball and triathlons, making the junior state squad in the latter. He later admitted that he couldn’t swim properly and had no interest in learning how. Instead, he focused on cycling and never looked back.

Durbridge was a member of the gold medal-winning team pursuit at the 2008 Junior Track World Championships and was a formidable time trialler early in his road career, earning the nickname ‘Turbo Durbo’ and ‘Junior Senior’ for showing experience beyond his years.

He became the youngest medal winner in the under-23 road time trial when he won silver at the world road championships in Geelong in 2010. He followed it up with a ninth placing in Glasgow in 2014.

Durbridge also competed in the road race at his Olympic debut in Tokyo where he was 72nd.
