Lynne Watson

Lynne Bates (Watson) (swimming) dominated the 1970 Commonwealth Games winning four gold medals including the 100m and 200m backstroke events and as a member of the 4×100m freestyle and medley relay teams. She captured a fifth medal, a silver, in the 100-metre freestyle. Bates won a silver medal in the 4×100-metre medley relay at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City, narrowly missing out on two more medals. After her swimming career, Bates became a team administrator for Australia at multiple Olympic Games including the role of deputy Chef de Mission in Athens in 2004 and was competition manager for aquatics at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.
