Matthew competes in athletics and currently represents UTS Norths, having started when he was 6 years old. His most recent achievements include winning silver in the U18 400m Hurdles at the 2023 Australian Athletics Championships and equalling the previous Australian record, winning gold in the U18 400m Hurdles at the 2023 NSW Championships and gold in the U17 400m Hurdles at the 2022 Australian All Schools Championships. Joining Australia’s Trinbago 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games team as a 400m hurdler, Matthew made it into the final before marginally missing out on a podium position by one-hundredth of a second. He also secured a bronze medal in the mixed 4x400m relay. His aspirations include being the best person he can be at the 400m hurdles & 400m, representing Australia with pride and at the highest levels, and competing in the Commonwealth Games, Olympic Games, and World Championships.
