Michelle Jenneke (athletics) reached the final of the women’s 100m hurdles at three Commonwealth Games, finishing fifth at Glasgow 2014 – where she clocked 13.36 seconds as the youngest competitor the final – fourth on the Gold Coast four years later (13.07) after clocking 12.99 in the heat and fifth at Birmingham in 2022 (12.68).
Michelle started training with her first coach Mick Zisti at Cherrybrook Little Athletics when she was 10 and decided to pursue a career in athletics after winning a silver medal at the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games. She competed at the Barcelona 2012 world junior champs where a video of her dancing during her pre-race warm-up went viral and won bronze at the 2015 World University Games in Gwangju.
Michelle reached the semi-finals at five consecutive world championships appearances in Beijing 2015, London 2017, Doha 2019, Eugene 2022 – where she became the second fastest Australian of all time set her PB of 12.66 seconds in the heat – and Budapest 2023. However, Olympic success has evaded the Hills Grammar School alumna. She made her Olympic debut in Rio in 2016 where she finished sixth in her heat (13.26), ended the 2021 season early due to injury which prevented her qualifying for Tokyo and suffered a brutal fall during her heat at the Paris 2024 Games.
Michelle has also competed at three world indoor championships (Portland 2016, Birmingham 2018, Glasgow 2024) and won three national 100m hurdles titles (2016, 2023, 2024).
Jenneke graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechatronics) from the University of Sydney in 2019.
