Mitchell Larkin

Mitch Larkin (swimming) cemented his place as one of the Commonwealth Games most decorated male swimmers in Birmingham where he added gold and silver medals for heat swims in the mixed 4x100m medley and men’s 4x100m medley. However, he fell short of a third consecutive gold in the 200m backstroke when he finished 4th. He also reached the final of the 100m backstroke but did not advance past the heats of the 50m.

Larkin made his Commonwealth Games debut in Glasgow in 2014 where he won four medals, including gold in the 200m backstroke. Four years later on the Gold Coast, the Queenslander won gold in every event he entered and his five gold medals was the most by any competitor.

Larkin made his Olympic debut in London in 2012, going on to swim at both Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020, for his silver and bronze medals. He also has three gold, two silver and a bronze from six world championship appearances in Shanghai (2011), Barcelona (2013), Kazan (2015), Budapest (2017), Gwangju (2019) and Budapest (2022), including snaring the 100/200m double at Kazan 2015.

The bespectacled back-stroker wears contact lenses so he can see the backstroke flags and scoreboard at end of the race.
