Mollie O’Callaghan

Mollie O’Callaghan (swimming) produced one of the best performances by any athlete at a Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, despite being one of the youngest members of the Australian swim team. The Brisbane teenager won seven medals, including five gold, highlighted by leading an Australian trifecta home in the blue-riband 100m freestyle – just a few weeks after winning becoming world champion in Budapest – as well as gold and a world record in the 4x200m freestyle.

Mollie started swimming when she was four and began competing just three years later. In 2019, she was selected as part of Australia’s World Junior Championships team in Budapest where she won silver as a member of the 4x100m freestyle relay. After an impressive performance at the 2021 Olympic selection trials, Mollie was named as the youngest member of Australia’s team for Tokyo where she picked up gold medals for heat swims in both the 4x100m freestyle and 4x100m medley relays, as well as bronze in the 4x200m freestyle.

She has trained with Dean Boxall’s all-star St Peter’s Western squad since 2019.
