Murray Riley

Murray Riley (rowing) partnered with Australian rowing legend Mervyn Wood to win gold medals in the double sculls at the Auckland 1950 and Vancouver 1954 British Empire Games. Riley represented Australia at the Helsinki 1952 Olympics pairing with John Rogers, where the duo was eliminated in the semi-finals. Before joining with Wood at the Melbourne 1956 Olympics to finish on the podium behind the Soviet Union and United States teams. During his rowing career, Riley was rising through the New South Wales police force obtaining the rank of NSW police commission. However Riley resigned after disciplinary charges were levelled against him, sadly later in life Riley gained notoriety as a criminal.
