Nicholas Hough

PRINT PAGE

Nicholas Hough (athletics) reached three consecutive men’s 110m hurdles finals at the Commonwealth Games where his bronze medal in a career-best 13.38 seconds at Gold Coast 2018 was his best result. It was the fastest time by an Australian at the Commonwealth Games and Australia’s first medal in the event since Don Wright won bronze in Edinburgh in 1986. Hough also finished fourth at his first Games in Glasgow 2014 and was seventh in his last appearance in Birmingham in 2022.

Having won gold at his international debut at the inaugural Youth Olympic Games in Singapore in 2010 aged 16, Hough was destined for success on the track. Two years later, he won silver at the World Junior Championships in Barcelona.

He made his Olympic debut in the 110m hurdles at the delayed Tokyo 2020 Olympics – the first Australian to compete in the event in 21 years – where he finished seventh in his semi-final.

He also competed at five world championships, reaching the semi-finals at Doha 2019 and Eugene 2022.

Off the track, Hough has a Bachelor of Information Technology (Honours) from the University of Sydney. A former director of The Kings’ School Old Boys’ Union, Hough is the co-founder and CEO of Outwrite, an AI-powered software assistant which guides its users to be better writers.
