Raelene Boyle AM MBE

Raelene Boyle (athletics) competed at four Commonwealth Games from 1970-1982 winning a grand total of nine medals, seven of them gold including back-to-back doubles in the 100m and 200m events in Edinburgh and Christchurch. After winning the sprint double over 100m and 200m, along with 4x100m relay golds in 1970 and 1974, Boyle’s win in the 400m at the 1982 Brisbane Games in her final race remains an iconic moment in Australian sport. Boyle also represented Australia at three Olympic Games as a sprinter, where she won three silver medals in the 100m and 200m events. In 1998, Boyle was named one of 100 National Living Treasures by the National Trust of Australia, was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 1985 before being elevated to legend status in 2017.
