Ray Boyd

Ray Boyd (athletics) competed in three Commonwealth Games and won eleven Australian national championships in the Pole Vault, ending his career on a high note winning the gold medal at the 1982 Commonwealth Games in Brisbane. Boyle competed in two Olympics. He married Australian sprinter and 1974 and 1978 Commonwealth Games gold medallist Denise Robertson, who carried the Australian flag in the opening ceremony of the 1980 Olympic Games. Boyd is the father and coach of Delhi and Glasgow Games women’s pole vault gold medallist Alana Quade (Boyle). Boyle’s son Matthew also competed for Australia in the 2010 and 2014 Games in the men’s pole vault, finishing 13th.
