Rex Aubrey

Rex Aubrey (swimming) made his sole Commonwealth Games appearance at the Vancouver 1954 Games where he won gold as part of Australia’s 4×220-yard relay team and bronze in the 110-yard freestyle event. Hailing from Parkes, New South Wales, he developed an affinity for the water from a young age, becoming Australian 13-and-under champion in the 55-yard freestyle in 1948. Aubrey continued that early success into representing Australia at the Helsinki 1952 Olympics, where he finished sixth in the 100m final. Following the Olympics he travelled to the United States to study and compete at Yale University, becoming the NCAA champion in the 50m and 100m freestyle events. Rex Aubrey passed away in 2021, aged 86.
