Ridge Barredo

Ridge Barredo (weightlifting) made his second Commonwealth Games appearance in Birmingham where he finished 5th in the menβs 96kg. Four years earlier, he was 8th in the 105kg class at the Gold Coast Games. Originally a basketballer, Ridge played junior rugby league, including being part of the Cronulla Sharks SG Ball (under-18) team in 2013 and got into weightlifting through CrossFit. Barredo made his international debut at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships in 2016 in India. A year later, he claimed bronze at the championships on the Gold Coast, then double bronze at the 2019 Pacific titles in Samoa. Barredo set his snatch best (153kg) in March 2021 and clean and jerk PB (187kg) in February 2022. He is coached by Michael Pang at the Aklon Weightlifting Club in Sydney.

Why did you begin your sport?
I got into weightlifting from crossfit as i always excelled in the olympic weightlifting aspect of it.

Winning a bronze medal from the b group at the 2017 Commonwealth weightlifting championships

My dad as he's probably the hardest working person i know and i would be ecstatic if i had half the work ethic he has
