Ryan Gregson
Ryan Gregson (athletics) competed in the Glasgow 2014
and Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games in the 1500m. Gregson has had a long
career as one of Australia’s premier middle distance runners, starting off his
representative career in a different event, the World Mountain Running
Championships as a junior. Gregson finished 5th in the 1500m at both the World
Youth and World Junior Championships before his senior international debut at
the 2009 World Championships. Representing the green and gold at the London 2012 and
Rio 2016 Olympic Games where he was the first Australian male to reach the
final in 40 years. In 2010, Gregson set the Australian record for 1500m. In 2018, Gregson married
2014 and 2018 team member Genevieve LaCaze, and his cousin is Hockeyroos player Casey Sablowski
(nee Eastham) who won gold medals in Delhi in 2010 and Glasgow in 2014.

Why did you begin your sport?
I used to get chased by the school bully around the playground and he never caught me so I knew I was fit.

I pray to the Running Gods.
What is your most memorable sporting achievement?
Making the 2016 Olympic Games 1500m final.
Who is your hero / idol, and why? Have you ever met them?
Fabrice Lapierre, Australia's greatest ever long jumper. I've been fortunate enough to room with him and see how the great's act in their day to day lives.
Who has been the most influential person or people in your career and why?
My coach, Nic Bideau. If he says jump, I say how high, so he is the brains behind my career. I'm just the feet.
Do you have any hobbies away from your sport?
Travel, beers, cricket, footy. Typical Aussie.
What is your sporting ambition?
Win gold at the Commonwealth Games.
