Tim Howard
Tim Howard (hockey) lined up in all six of Australia’s games during their gold-medal winning campaign at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games.
Born into a hockey-playing family – both his mum and grandmother represented Queensland – Tim started playing with the Eastern Suburbs Hockey Club in Brisbane. His rise through the national junior ranks began when he captained Australia’s gold medal-winning hockey 5s team at the 2014 Youth Olympics in Nanjing. He made the under-21 side that won bronze at the Sultan of Johor Cup in Malaysia and captained the team again at the 2016 Junior World Cup. He received his Kookaburras call-up against New Zealand in Bendigo in January 2017 before being asked to move to Perth to join the national training squad. Howard was part of the World Cup bronze-medal winning team in 2018 and made his Olympic debut in Tokyo in 2021 where the Kookaburras came away with a silver medal.
Away from the hockey pitch, the Kookaburras defender works in the Commercial Banking Team at CommBank in Perth and is undertaking a master’s degree in applied finance at the University of Western Australia.
