Youcef Abdi

Youcef Abdi (athletics) won a bronze medal in the 1500m event at the Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Games, before changing his focus to the steeplechase event for the Melbourne 2006 and Delhi 2010 Games. Born in Algeria, Youcef fled his home country for Australia when he was a teenager, obtaining citizenship in 2000. A four-time national steeplechase champion and one-time 1500m national champion, Youcef represented Australia at the Beijing 2008 Olympics finishing sixth against the world’s best.
