A home-away-from-home for the Australian Team at Glasgow 2026 will be established at the Glasgow Argyle Hotel, delivering AUSHQ to the more than 400 athletes, coaches and officials, as well as their family and friends.

Set to serve as the central hub for green and gold operations across the Games, AUSHQ will deliver performance healthcare, wellbeing, recovery and medical services for athletes, additional accommodation and operations space for support staff and a dedicated Team Lounge delivering barista-made coffee and grab-and-go dining.

AUSHQ will also host Sideline Champions, a bespoke program for family and friends of the Australian Commonwealth Games Team, as well as alumni, that will bring together the many fans expected to descend on the host city.

The confirmation of AUSHQ comes Chef de Mission Petria Thomas OAM OLY leads a delegation of more than 20 Team Managers, medical and operational staff on a comprehensive site visit to Glasgow, with the delegation staying at the Glasgow Argyle Hotel during their stay.

The site visit represents a critical phase in preparations for Glasgow 2026, allowing Team Officials to finalise operational arrangements and ensure the AUSHQ meets the specific requirements for managing what is the second largest Australian sporting delegation behind the Australian Olympic Team.

“Establishing a strong and supportive home base is essential to ensuring our athletes, coaches and officials can perform at their best,” Thomas said.

“The Glasgow Argyle Hotel will provide the facilities and environment we need to deliver a high-performance culture, while also giving our team a welcoming space to connect, recharge and focus on the job ahead.”

“I am confident that it will become our competitive advantage and the envy of the Commonwealth.”

Deputy Chef de Mission Katrina Webb OAM PLY, who will oversee daily management of AUSHQ, echoed Thomas’ sentiment, highlighting the importance of the site visit and collaborative planning.

“The site visit now underway allow us to plan for every detail, ensuring that we meet the needs of the Australian Team well in advance of the Games,” Webb said.

“It’s about creating a seamless experience for all Team Members, where performance remains a focus and medical services, wellbeing and recovery are prioritised.

Barry Van Den Berg, General Manager for the Glasgow Argyle Hotel, said the partnership with the Australian Team was one the hotel, and its many staff and contractors, are looking forward to.

“It’s brilliant to have the Games back in Glasgow and we’re proud to serve as the team base for an Australian contingent numbering in the hundreds,” Van Den Berg said.

“We are committed to working collaboratively with Petria and her team to deliver world-class service that supports athletes, coaches and officials in their pursuit of success. The chance to play a part in the Games journey of so many is very exciting.”

The Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games will take place from 23 July to 2 August 2026, with operations at AUSHQ to begin on 15 July 2026.
