A strategic and comprehensive investment through Commonwealth Games Australia’s (CGA) Green2Gold2Great (G2G2G) Program is enhancing preparation and performance capabilities for Australian athletes ahead of Glasgow 2026.

The impact of Period One of G2G2G funding has already been significant, with 35 innovative projects creating valuable opportunities for both emerging talents and established athletes.

These investments have supported various performance-enhancing activities, from domestic and international training camps to competition support initiatives.

Looking beyond physical training, the program employs a comprehensive approach to athletic development, with 28% of sport activities focused on performance support, data analysis and leadership development, key elements that build the foundations for sustainable success on the world stage.

The reach of this initiative has been substantial, positively impacting 1,137 individuals within Australia’s high-performance community, including 764 athletes, 187 coaches, and 186 high-performance staff.

These numbers reflect CGA’s commitment to supporting Australia’s sporting talent as we continue to pursue our goal to be the number one nation in terms of gold medals won, overall medals, medallist’, and medal-winning sports.

Robin O’Neill, CGA’s General Manager of Team Planning and Delivery, highlights the program’s importance, noting the potential success the G2G2G Program can help sports and athletes to achieve.

“This investment is a game-changer for Australia’s high-performance system,” O’Neill said.

“With $13 million supporting a range of impactful projects, this investment is laying the groundwork for future success, ensuring that emerging talent and proven performers have every opportunity to thrive at the Commonwealth Games.

“CGA is proud to support its sport members and athletes on their path to success, investing in talent, high performance, and excellence on the world-stage.”

The momentum continues with Period Two of the Green2Gold2Great program, which will roll out over the next 16 months leading to the 2026 Games.

This next phase includes a $4 million investment for sports on the 2026 program, $1 million supporting CGA Sport Members, and $1.5 million directly benefiting athletes, bringing the total Period Two investment to $6.5 million as Australia prepares for Commonwealth success.

CGA invested $4.7 million in Period One of Green2Gold2Great, enabling the development of current and emerging athletes within Australia’s Green & Gold decade.

Australia’s athletes and their respective sports are set to receive a $6.5 million boost from CGA through Period Two of its Green2Gold2Great investment program.

An allocation of $4 million will support delivering the best possible result at Glasgow 2026, with the 10 program sports to share in a pool of funds that is geared toward achieving team success, while a further $1 million will also be allocated to sports who do not feature at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
