Australia’s Jackaroos enjoyed a solid day at Glasgow 2026 with three wins and a loss as the finish line to the Commonwealth Games gets closer by the session.
Men’s Pairs
Corey Wedlock and Aaron Teys commenced their bid for gold with a 5-4 12-1 win over Pakistan’s Maqsood Waseem Khan and Mohammed Ayub Qureshi.
Despite having much control of the opening set, the Australians found themselves having to fight tooth and nail thanks to some brilliant deliveries from their opponents.
Levelled at 4-4 and down with one bowl to come, Teys played with huge weight to seal the opener for the green and gold.
Once the momentum was gained, Wedlock and Teys began to run riot, crowding the jack at any chance they got to mount significant pressure on Pakistan, who were unable to match them.
Wedlock and Teys will be back in action tomorrow against Fiji’s Lal Chand Prasad and Surendra Prasad (Thursday 8:20pm AEST)
Women’s Singles
Ellen Fife’s women’s singles title defence is on shaky ground after a 13-2 5-5 defeat at the hands of England’s Katherine Rednall.
Rednall raced out of the blocks, scoring five shots from the first three exchanges to gain the upper hand in the early portion of the contest.
It would remain that way inclined for the rest of the first set as the England star showed why she has enjoyed an abundance of success across her career.
Fife responded in fine fashion, running out to a 5-1 lead in the second set with two ends to play before Rednall nailed a huge bowl to score a two with the penultimate exchange to narrow the gap.
The English star performed brilliantly in the deciding end to score the two she needed and take the ascendancy in section A.
Fife will return to the green tomorrow against Jersey’s Abby Andrieux (Thursday 6:55pm AEST) before following up with against Malta’s Connie Rixon (Friday 1:25am AEST).
Para Men’s Pairs
Damien Delgado and James Reynolds kept their unblemished record in tact thanks to a 5-4 4-5 3-0 win against England’s Joe Peplow and Kieran Rollings.
The Australians netted a two in the first end thanks to some supreme draw bowling before the English managed to find their range and repel everything that was rolled their way.
Trailing by two with an end to play, Delgado and Reynolds played a superb end to gain a three with the final bowl to clinch the set in style.
England claimed a two in the opening end of the second set before the men in green and gold secured yet another three to take the lead.
The momentum shifted both ways before Rollings played a bomb on the last end of the second to send the match to a tiebreak.
Enter Reynolds, who produced a beautiful bowl to trail the jack into the ditch and seal the contest and maintain Australia’s unbeaten run.
Delgado and Reynolds will be back in action tomorrow against Singapore’s Mawjit Singh Gurmet Singh and Kirmern Bin Mohammed (Thursday 5:30pm AEST)
Para Women’s Pairs
Louise Hoskins and Serena Bonnell enjoyed their first salutation of the tournament with a 6-3 10-0 win against England’s Michelle White and Helen Wood.
The first set started with swings in ascendancy but some telling blows from both Australians saw them lift in the clutch moments to emerge victorious.
England lay down the gauntlet in the opening end of the second stanza but Hoskins and Bonnell again proved to be up for the task to gain a 4-0 buffer after three.
The onslaught continued as the duo opened their account to keep on track for a knockout place.
Hoskins and Bonnell will be in action against Canada’s Jean Stairs and Anne Hibberd (Friday 5:40am AEST).
