Commonwealth Games Australia was today informed by Wrestling Australia that selected athlete Robert Whittaker has withdrawn from the Gold Coast 2018 Australian Commonwealth Games Team.

Whittaker was set to compete in the 97kg division.

Australian Team Chef de Mission Steve Moneghetti said he was disappointed for Whittaker.

“Rob made very clear when selected in the team recently just how excited and proud he was to wear the green and gold for Australia, so we are disappointed for him that he has had to withdraw.

“We understand the circumstances and wish him all the best,” Moneghetti said.
