Applications for Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018) have officially opened today, offering a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get involved in the biggest event Queensland has seen.

GC2018 will require a force of 15,000 capable, committed and connected volunteers to help deliver the Games to the standard seen at Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games.

Australian Team Chef De Mission Steve Moneghetti today reflected on his time as the Mayor of the Commonwealth Games Village in Melbourne and the important role each and every volunteer played.

“To hold a great games, you need great volunteers,” he said.

“Volunteers are such an integral part of the games. And certainly in Melbourne 2006 it was the huge fleet of volunteers who helped make it such a memorable experience”.

There will be a number of diverse roles, across all venues available, some situated outside the Gold Coast in Brisbane, Cairns and Townsville, creating opportunities to volunteer right across the state.

“It is not often opportunities to be part of such a special event come around and I would certainly encourage people to put their hand up to be part of Gold Coast 2018,” Moneghetti said.

Iconic Australian brand Hard Yakka gave another reason for volunteers to apply last week, when they were announced as the official uniform provider, promising comfort and longevity.
