Trap shooter James Willett maintained his red-hot form on the weekend as he claimed victory in the third Commonwealth Games double trap shooting qualifier in Queensland.

The victory comes after Willett triumphed in the trap discipline at the ISSF Grand Prix in Pennsylvania last month.

Willett won the men’s double trap overall at the Games qualifier, with scores of 133/150 and 71/80.

The win puts the Victorian shooter on target to qualify for the Games on the Gold Coast next year.

“This keeps me in the lead for the double trap for Commonwealth selection with two more competitions to go,” he told the Wangaratta Chronicle.

“It is looking pretty good for me at this stage to qualify for next year’s Games on the Gold Coast.”

Willett is also still in contention to be selected in the men’s trap event.

The event was the third qualifying event for the Games, with the fourth to follow in New South Wales in October.
