Commonwealth Games Australia (CGA) is backing every Australian athlete selected for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games with a $5,000 performance boost, putting flexible, athlete‑driven funding directly into their hands when it matters most.
Delivering a total investment of $1.5 million, and continuing a program that has existed for more than a decade, every selected athlete will have the freedom to invest the support where it counts, whether that be specialist coaching, sport science, competition travel, new equipment, recovery or medical care.
Australian Team Chef de Mission Petria Thomas OAM OLY said the investment reflects CGA’s belief in giving athletes every possible advantage in the final phases of their preparation ahead of Glasgow 2026.
“Our athletes work incredibly hard for the chance to represent Australia, and this support is about backing them right when the margins matter most,” Thomas said.
“At this stage of preparation, it’s often the small, highly personal decisions, an extra camp, a piece of equipment, the right recovery, or working one less shift to unlock the best possible performance.
“This puts that choice in the athletes’ hands.
“These final months are where one small improvement can be the difference between a podium finish and just missing out.”
The direct athlete support forms part of CGA’s $13 million Green2Gold2Great (G2G2G) Investment Program, with $11.6 million invested this quadrennium and more than $67 million committed since 1996.
G2G2G underpins CGA’s ambition to make Australia the top nation at the Commonwealth Games in terms of gold and overall medals won, the number of medallists and the number of sports winning medals.
With Glasgow 2026 fast approaching, CGA’s backing is clear: every athlete selected will be supported, trusted, and given every chance to be at their best.
In 2026, athletes will receive the $5,000 commitment directly from CGA. At previous Games, including Gold Coast 2018 and Birmingham 2022, the funding was provided through the dAIS Athlete Grant scheme.
