Brittany O’Brien

Brittany O’Brien (diving) was very nearly done with the sport a year before her second Commonwealth Games in Birmingham before her coach convinced the former platform diver to come to springboard rather than retire. Brittany rose above the pressure to win her first medal, silver in the women’s 1m springboard. She was also 9th in the 3m springboard and 5th with Esther Qin in the 3m synchronised. Brittany began in the sport when she was 10, although she took time off in her mid-teens as she struggled with issues outside the pool. However, she came back with vigour, narrowly missing Olympic selection in 2016 though named as a reserve. Then, a shoulder injury to Brittany Broben earned her a late call-up for Rio where the then 18-year-old schoolgirl reached the semi-finals of the 10m platform as the youngest member of the diving team. Commonwealth Games selection came in 2018 where Brittany finished 7th in the 10m platform behind Melissa Wu. She withdrew from the Olympic trials for Tokyo. Brittany has over 500,000 followers on TikTok and also owns a Jewellery Brand called Draco Jewellery, which she launched in 2020.
