Esther Qin

Esther Qin (diving) finished 6th in the 1m springboard and 5th in 3m synchronised with Brittany O’Brien in their first outing as a synchro pair. Born in China, Esther migrated to Australia with her family in 2009 after her father found a position in Sydney as a chef. Having already started diving in China when she was 11, it was not long after her arrival that the Beverly Hills Girls High School student sought out a diving club. Esther made her debut for Australia at the 2013 Summer Universiade in Kazan, before claiming gold in the 3m springboard and bronze in the 1m at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. Bronze in the 3m synchronised at the 2015 World Championships with Samantha Mills was followed by her Olympic debut in Rio, where she made the final of the 3m springboard. 2018 produced more medals at the Commonwealth Games – gold in the 3m synchronised with Georgia Sheehan and bronze in the 1m springboard – before the second Olympics in Tokyo where she finished 12th in the 3m springboard. Esther studied commerce at the University of Western Sydney and arts at Macquarie University
