Cara Koenen
Cara Koenen (netball) played a pivotal role in the Diamonds’ gold-medal win against Jamaica at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, swapping in for fellow shooter Steph Wood in the second half and netting all 15 of her shots. The 190cm shooter was picked as a foundation player at the Sunshine Coast Lightning ahead of their inaugural season in 2017 but spent most of their first two years on the bench, breaking into the team late in the 2019 season. She played her 50th game for the club in 2021 and was also named Player’s Player of the Year at the Netball Australia awards. Koenen was added to the Australian National Development squad in 2019, making her debut for Diamonds against New Zealand in 2021.
