Joshua Beltz
Josh Beltz (hockey) is one of eight Commonwealth Games debutants in the Kookaburras squad selected to compete in Birmingham . A defender with over 60 games to his credit since making his international debut against India in 2015, Josh stepped up from the national development squad to the Olympic training squad in 2016 but narrowly missed the cut for the Rio Olympics. He was almost twice unlucky after initially being named as a reserve for Tokyo 2020, then was upgraded to a full team member just days before the Games when the eligibility rules were relaxed to allow reserves to play. His younger brother Hayden plays for Australia’s under-21 side the ‘Burras’ and is rated in the top tier of the development squad.
