Shanea Tonkin

Shanea Tonkin (hockey) was elevated to the Hockeyroos squad for the first time in 2022 and made her Commonwealth Games debut in Birmingham.

Shanea, a cousin of teammate Kaitlin Nobbs, was selected for her first junior Australian team at 17 and made her Australian Hockey League debut with the NT Stingers in 2016. However, her passion for the sport wavered when she missed selection for the Junior World Cup in 2016 so she moved back to her home state to finish her degree in nursing. After playing for the WA Diamonds for the 2017 and 2018 AHL seasons – and spending several years in the National Development squad – Shanea was named in the 2022 Hockeyroos squad, making her senior international debut in the Trans-Tasman series against New Zealand.

Her father, Shane Tonkin, represented Australia in baseball at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics where he also wore no.9.
