Congratulations to Georgia Baker (cycling), who last week was announced as the 2022 Tasmanian Athlete of the Year.
Recognising outstanding performances at the international level, contribution to the athlete’s sport, and contribution to the Tasmanian community, the Tasmanian Institute of Sport (TIS) hosted a special cocktail function in recognition of the accolade.
Baker was awarded the honour following an incredible year of sporting results, including three gold medals at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, one of which included the Teams Pursuit that also set a new Commonwealth Games record.
She also collected a bronze medal at the 2022 World Road Championships in the Teams Time Trial and an eighth place in the Individual Time Trial, as well as two fourth place finishes at the 2022 World Track Championships.

The ceremony also saw athletics star Tristan Thomas inducted into the Tasmanian Sporting Hall of Fame.
Thomas, who competed at the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games, also represented Australia at the London 2012 Olympic Games, multiple World Athletics Championships, and was a five-time Australian National Champion in the 400m hurdles.
With his induction, the number of members in the Tasmanian Sporting Hall of Fame is now 140.
Congratulations to all finalists and winners on their successes. With thanks to the Tasmanian Institute of Sport.
