The Squash Australia star began his debut Commonwealth Games campaign with a victory.

Australian squash star Rhys Dowling has cruised into the second round of the men’s singles at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

Dowling was largely untroubled in beating Jason Doyle from Saint Vincent and the Grenadines 3-0.

Most of the big names received a bye into the second round where Dowling will take on Malaysia’s Chee Wern Yuen on Saturday.

In the women’s singles second round, opening ceremony flagbearer Rachael Grinham will get her bid for a third Commonwealth title underway in an all-Australian clash with Donna Lobban on Saturday.

Grinham, 45, is competing at her sixth Commonwealth Games.

Fellow Australian Jessica Turnbull takes on Colette Sultana from Malta.
