Dr Peter Harcourt has been appointed as the new Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) Medical Advisor where he will chair the Anti-Doping and Medical Commission and join the Executive Board.
Dr Harcourt, a member of Commonwealth Games Australia’s Performance Healthcare Advisory Group and Australian Team Medical Director at the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games is recognised as one of the leading professionals in his field with decades of experience working in international sport.
He has worked across the Commonwealth Games in various capacities including when he was a member of the CGF Medical Commission for Gold Coast 2018. He was also Chief Medical Officer at Melbourne 2006 and Chair of the Commonwealth Games Australia’s Medical Commission while he has attended multiple Commonwealth Games as well as Olympic Games as a team medical officer.
Dr Harcourt currently chairs both the International Cricket Council (ICC) Medical Advisory Committee and the Federation of International Basketball Associations (FIBA) Medical Commission whilst being a member of the Prohibited List Expert Group of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
He also holds the roles of Medical Director of the Australian Football League (AFL), Chief Medical Officer to Basketball Australia and Anti-Doping Medical Officer to Cricket Australia.
He was appointed CGF Medical Advisor following an international search for applicants.

Commonwealth Games Australia CEO Craig Phillips said the appointment of Dr Harcourt was fitting recognition for Peter’s long contribution to the Commonwealth Games Movement.
“The role of CGF Medical Advisor is an important one and Peter’s skills and experience will be well served in guiding the Anti-Doping and Medical Commission. In addition, Peter will take a chair on the CGA Executive Board and his broad team and Games experience will be of great benefit to the entire Commonwealth Games community.”
Dr Harcourt will begin the role immediately, succeeding Tan Sri Dr Manikavasagam Jegathesan of Malaysia as CGF Medical Advisor. Dr Jegathesan retired from the position at the CGF General Assembly in Rwanda in 2019.
