Commonwealth Games Australia in association with the Carbine Club of NSW and the NSW Institute of Sport are now seeking nominations for the 2020 Kurt Fearnley Scholarships.

Kurt Fearnley Scholarships will support up to five talented NSW para-athletes for 2020 who currently receive limited support from other sources and show outstanding potential for future success in identified Commonwealth Games para-sport events – athletics, swimming, cycling, basketball, lawn bowls, triathlon, table tennis and powerlifting.

Designed to support para-sport ‘future talent’ athletes, Kurt Fearnley scholarship athletes will receive agreed support to fast track their development to achieve success at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Kurt Fearnley Scholarship recipients will receive:

• Financial support up to $3750 based on their individual requirements
• NSWIS program support up to $1000 (value in kind) including assistance with performance planning
• Monitoring and access to agreed NSWIS facilities at supervised times
• Engagement with dual Commonwealth Games and three-time Paralympic gold medallist Kurt Fearnley.

Scholarship support will be individualised to the recipient and can include financial assistance, Individual Athlete Performance Planning, training, competing at the domestic/international levels, customised sport equipment and where necessary classification confirmation.

This initiative is part of Commonwealth Games Australia’s performance strategy and is fully endorsed by Paralympics Australia.

Applications must be endorsed by their relevant National Sporting Organisation (NSO).

The 2020 Commonwealth Games Australia Kurt Fearnley Scholarships program follows from the successful introduction of the program in 2019 with the induction of the first five scholarship holders.

The first intake included, swimmer Jasmine Greenwood who won bronze in the S10 butterfly at the 2019 World Para-Swimming Championships in London and wheelchair race Luke Bailey who made his Australian representative debut at the recent World Para-Athletics Championships in Dubai, where he finished 7^th in the T54 100m.
