Today, February 16 is Cathy Freeman’s birthday.

Today, we celebrate one of the greatest athletes of our time.

At just 16 years-old Cathy Freeman ran her way into the history books
at the 1990 Auckland Commonwealth Games when she became the first Aboriginal ever to win Gold.

One of the most iconic sporting moments of our times.
1994 Victoria, Canada Commonwealth Games.
Freeman proudly flew the Aboriginal flag as she took a lap of honour after winning the 400 metres.
She affirmed her commitment to Aboriginal people and in doing so started a National conversation.

In 2002 Freeman competed in her last Commonwealth Games in Manchester before retiring, saying simply ‘my hearts not in it’.
Her impact on the sport and her heritage was significant.

Happy Birthday Cathy Freeman!
