Commonwealth Games Australia (CGA) applauds the Australian Government for the outstanding $513 million commitment to sport that was made today.

Ensuring green and gold success from Glasgow 2026 next month through to Brisbane 2032, the investment will deliver participation and performance outcomes that encourage both winning and playing well for all Australians.

“Australian athletes and their sports are the beneficiaries of this significant investment, it’s a big win for sport across the country,” Craig Phillips AM, CGA CEO, said

“We commend the Albanese Government and the Minister for Sport, Anika Wells, for their continued commitment to success both on and off the field of play.

“From the first interaction with participation to Commonwealth, Olympic or Paralympic glory, Australians are supported in their aspirations to take part in sport and that’s an outstanding outcome.

“Australians take pride in the success of our athletes, and this investment ensures it will continue from Glasgow 2026 next month through Brisbane 2032.”

The package commits performance funding to 68 sports over the next two years and the continuation of direct athlete support to help with daily and living expenses.

Additionally, 58 organisations will receive Play Well funding to help create safe, welcoming, inclusive and fun environments for participation in sport.

It also ensures the preparedness of athletes and sports beginning to make plans for the Amdavad 2030 Commonwealth Games, an event that will double as the centenary of the Commonwealth Sport movement.

“The Albanese Government are a steadfast and ongoing advocate for both the Win Well and Play Well strategies – this is a big win,” Phillips added.

“It confirms their understanding of the impact that sport can deliver to people of all abilities, all backgrounds and across our vast country.”
