Commonwealth Games Australia CEO Craig Philips said that on behalf of all involved in the Commonwealth Games movement in Australia, he congratulates Moneghetti on the Hall of Fame honour.

“Steve’s contribution to athletics in Australia, and to Australian sport on the whole has been incredibly significant,” Phillips said.

“He is among our Commonwealth Games greats, having medalled at consecutive Games from Edinburgh in 1986, through to Kuala Lumpur in 1998, including a famous marathon gold in Victoria, Canada in 1994.

“As an athlete he is someone who always represented his country with great distinction, and he continues to do so in his various roles that he holds in Australian sport.

“Gold Coast 2018 will be Steve’s ninth Commonwealth Games as an athlete or official, and we are incredibly proud to have him as part of our team,” he said.
