LEARN MOREWith the perennially popular sports such as swimming, athletics and netball expected to be in extremely high demand in the current ticket ballot operating for the Games, Australian sports fans can ensure they can secure their seat.
So, there’s no need to scramble for tickets and with accommodation scarce in Birmingham, hotels are also confirmed, making a trip to the Games within reach for Australian fans on our full-service tour.
With Women’s T20 cricket and 3×3 Basketball set to make their Commonwealth Games debut, the biggest integrated Para-sport programme of any Commonwealth Games, and more medals to be awarded to women than men for the first time ever, records will be broken as the Commonwealth’s sporting heroes come together.
Australia will be represented in Birmingham by a team of around 400 athletes competing in all 21 sports, across 136 medal events for women, 134 for men and 13 mixed events.
And for families of prospective team members, the ‘Selection Guarantee’ means the stress is removed from the juggle between the time that bookings are required and when athletes and team selections occur, taking the ‘what happens if…’ out of the equation for families.
Commonwealth Games Australia CEO Craig Phillips AM said the Family & Fan’s Tour offered families, friends and supporters the opportunity to secure tickets to the Games and stay and sit together in Birmingham.
“In the past, most families and friends of Australian Team Members, along with general sports fans, travel independently to the Games. They sit separately in the stands, stay in separate hotels and don’t gather formally as fans of the Australian team. This is something Commonwealth Games Australia is addressing by providing a seamless service,” Phillips said.
“With all we have been through over the past 18 months, with families and fans unable to travel to Tokyo for the Olympic and Paralympic Games and many other national and international sporting events in 2020 and 2021, we hope that you will be able to join us in Birmingham for memories of a lifetime.”
SportsLink Travel has been appointed as the exclusive General Sales Agent by Commonwealth Games Australia and will be providing ticket and accommodation packages across every sport at Birmingham 2022.
SportsLink Travel is the only travel service authorised to sell tickets to Australians, aside from those Australians who secure tickets via the Birmingham 2022 ticket ballot.
SportsLink Travel will be known to many of our Commonwealth Games sports members, through their work with a number of national sporting organisations such as gymnastics, basketball, volleyball and hockey.
Operating tours since 2002, SportsLink Travel have conducted tours for thousands of people to hundreds of events around the world, including every Commonwealth Games since 2006.
SportsLink Travel Managing Director Paul Kelly said he and his team were looking forward to ensuring those who want to travel to Birmingham for the Games have the experience of lifetime.
“We know so many want to resume travel and they can’t wait to get to Birmingham to watch the Australian team in action,” Kelly said.
“It’s exciting that for the first time Australian supporters can sit together, stay together and cheer together and we look forward to helping create a tour that’s memorable.”
