Grant Harrison has been awarded Life Membership of Commonwealth Games Australia (CGA) in recognition of his almost 30-year commitment to the service of the Commonwealth Sport Movement and Australian sport administration.

Harrison has been involved with CGA since joining the former Board of Management in 2011. He was elected to the Board in 2018, re-elected in 2019 and 2024, and currently serves as Vice President.

Across the sporting sector, Harrison has held a range of leadership and governance roles, including Vice President of the CGA SA State Division, Director and Deputy Chair of Thoroughbred Racing SA, and committee roles with Table Tennis Australia, Gymnastics Australia and the SA Olympic Appeal Committee. He is also a Life Member of Gymnastics Australia.

“I’m honoured to be recognised with Life Membership of Commonwealth Games Australia,” Harrison said.

“It has been a privilege to contribute to an organisation that means so much to Australian sport and to work alongside passionate people who believe in the power of the Commonwealth Sport Movement to create opportunity, connection and lasting impact.

“To receive this honour from CGA is something I truly value.”

CGA President Ben Houston congratulated Harrison on his outstanding contribution to CGA and Australian sport.

“Grant has given extraordinary service to Commonwealth Games Australia and to sport more broadly over many years,” Houston said.

“His leadership, integrity and depth of experience have made him a highly respected voice in our movement, and his contribution across governance, finance, risk and investment has helped strengthen CGA.

“Conferring Life Membership on Grant is fitting recognition of a remarkable contribution to Commonwealth Games and Australian Sport, and on behalf of Commonwealth Games Australia, I congratulate him on this well-deserved honour.”

Earlier in his distinguished governance career, Harrison served as Director and then President of Gymnastics Australia from 2003 to 2014, Vice President of the Commonwealth Gymnastics Confederation, President of Gymnastics South Australia from 1998 to 2009, and Chair of numerous committees and working groups.

Harrison is currently a Director of Australian Commonwealth Games Foundation Ltd, a member of CGA’s and the Foundation’s Finance, Risk & Audit Committee, and Chair of the Investment Committee for the Australian Commonwealth Games Foundation.

At the Annual General Meeting held in Sydney today, a casual vacancy position occupied by Helen Nott was also formally ratified by Members.
