Commonwealth Games Australia mourns the passing of Australian diving coach Peter Panayi, aged 90.
A life member of Diving Australia, Peter has touched the lives of many in the diving community during his long career as an athlete, coach, mentor, administrator, and official.
Peter served as a coach at the Brisbane 1982 Commonwealth Games where Australian divers won five medals including two golds. Peter’s son Shaun Panayi represented Australia at the Brisbane 1982 and the Edinburgh 1986 Commonwealth Games.
Beyond his work on pool deck, Peter wrote Australia’s first manual on diving coaching paving the way for future generations of Australian coaches ensuring the success of Australian divers for many years to come.
