From seasoned veterans to rising stars, the cycling team, which includes 16 Commonwealth Games alumni, is gearing up to showcase their prowess on the world stage.
The track cycling competition will see five-time Commonwealth Games gold medallist Matthew Glaetzer compete at his fourth Olympic Games, equaling the second most for any male Australian track cyclist behind only Shane Kelly.
He will be joined by fellow Birmingham 2022 medallists Conor Leahy, Leigh Hoffman, and Matthew Richardson, with Kelland O’Brien, Oliver Bleddyn and Sam Welsford rounding out the selections.
Meanwhile Alexandra Manly, Chloe Moran, Georgia Baker, Kristina Clonan, Marve Plouffe and Sophie Edwards will contest the women’s track events.
Racing through Paris’ iconic monuments on the road will be Grace Brown, Lauretta Handon, Lucas Plapp, Ruby Roseman-Gannon, Michael Matthews, and Simon Clarke.
Four-time Commonwealth Games gold medallist and dual Olympian Georgia Baker acknowledged her selection as the team heads into their final preparations.
“It’s an honour to be selected to represent Australia at my third Olympic Games,” Baker said.
“The Olympics is a special moment that I’ve learnt to not take for granted, so I’ll be soaking it up as much as I can because there’s nothing quite like it. Our team is focused and ready for the next month ahead.”
The track cycling competition will be held from Monday 5 August to Sunday 11 August 2024 at the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines National Velodrome in Montigny-le-Bretonneux.
The road cycling competition will be held on Saturday 27 July, Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 August 2023. The individual time trial event will start from Invalides and finish on the Pont Alexandre III Bridge. The road race event will start from Pont d’Iéna bridge (opposite the Eiffel Tower) and finish at Trocadéro.
The BMX and mountain bike athletes are expected to be named in the coming weeks.
