With less than 60 days to go before the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, the Royal Australian Mint (the Mint) has announced the partnership with Commonwealth Games.

The Royal Australian Mint’s Chief Executive Officer, Leigh Gordon, said the Mint is excited to continue the longstanding partnership with Commonwealth Games Australia in support of the Australian athletes competing on the international stage.“For the last 40 years, the Mint has supported our top Aussie athletes competing in the Commonwealth Games.

“Through this ongoing partnership, we hope to help generate as much support and excitement for our athletes as possible, wishing them well on their journey to compete for gold at this year’s Commonwealth Games,” said Mr Gordon.

Commonwealth Games Australia Chief Executive Officer, Craig Phillips AM, welcomed the partnership and support. “It is wonderful to welcome the Royal Australian Mint as a partner for the Australian Team at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games,” Phillips said.

“The Royal Australian Mint has been a supporter of previous Commonwealth Games and Australian Commonwealth Games Teams, capturing many iconic sporting moments on coins for all Australians to collect and share. The coin program provides a tangible way for young and old alike to connect with our Team.

“With their support there will be another generation of Australian Team Members in Birmingham who will be bold, brave and brilliant in making their own coin worthy moments.”

As part of the partnership, the Mint is releasing a collection of coins that commemorate the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

“The Mint makes coins to tell the story of Australia. We have a long history of celebrating Australia’s major sporting events and achievements through our collectable coin program.”

“These coins are a fun way for people to show their support for our hardworking athletes, and remember the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games for years to come,” said Mr Gordon.

Australia will be represented at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games by an expected team of over 425 athletes competing in all sports on the Birmingham program, across 136 medal events for women, 134 for men and 13 mixed events.
